Twenty two students (twelve medical students, six students in Dental Medicine and four students in Pharmacy) have undergone their summer internship at the training and clinical facilities of Medical University-Varna. For two weeks interns trained at the academic and clinical facilities, under the direct supervision and guidance of leading professors in their respective fields.

Summer internship has been held for sixth consecutive year so far, under a contract for bilateral academic cooperation with Medical University-Varna. The first time this year, the program was attended foreign students.

During my internship I gained new knowledge and skills in oral surgery, implantology and prosthetic dentistry. I want to underline the modern technology and equipment of the University facilities, and the high professionalism of the doctors. Having the opportunity to train in an educational facility with such high standards of care and modern equipment helped us achieve our full potential. Under the supervision of DMD PHD Georgi Papanchev we were trained in the different departments of the dental faculty .I had learned different dental procedures through assisting. The doctors were very kind and gentle. We have seen many cases of difficult tooth extraction, dental implantation, bone augmentation. We have learned how to use virtual facebow. Thanks to Dr. G. Papanchev we got more than we expected! Great Experience! I would like to thank the whole team in the Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery, at the Medical University-Varna. Two weeks in the Medical Center reaffirmed my desire to pursue a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery after observing the high level of professionalism and work ethic of the staff.

My experience outside the university was great as well. We had the opportunity to go travel on the weekends and was really glad I got to see other cities besides Varna. The Department of International Cooperation of Medical University-Varna arranged for us a tour to Veliki Preslav, which was the capital of the First Kingdom of Bulgariafrom 893 to 971. We also visited in the beautiful town of Nessebar. Bulgarian students took a very good care of us. I whole-heartedly recommend this program to dental students.

The most memorable experience from our summer practice was the visit to the department of neonatology. This department specializes on the prematurely born newborns treatment (weigh no more than 600g, with various pathologies). It was interesting to have a practice in the department with advanced medical equipment, as well as to learn about the methods of parenteral feeding. We heard explanation and had a great chance to ask questions to vastly experienced doctors. Apart from the studies in schedule, we have do lots of activities. We practiced our clinical skill in simulation center. I have done many kinds of clinical training such as skin suture, laparoscopy, endoscopy and listening to heart murmur. Bulgarian students were very kind and nice to us. They were so friendly and open-minded and that’s make us close very fast. Last but not least, I would like to thank to Medical University-Varna for taking such a good care of us during this internship. I got a lot of positive impressions and emotions.

Invaluable work experience and new knowledge we’ve acquired is the matter of gratitude to Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, particularly, the Department of International Relations and the Dean’s Office for International Students.

A group of students from MU-Varna from the same faculties have had a two-week summer internship at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University as well.
